What Breast Reduction Can Do For You

Women who have overly large, pendulous breasts often suffer from physical and emotional discomfort due to their breast size. Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure that lifts, reshapes, and reduces the size of overly large breasts. Breast reduction is performed to improve a woman’s appearance and self image, and alleviate symptoms such as:

  • Deep grooves from bra straps
  • Back and neck pain
  • Limited physical activity

In addition, Dr. Mustoe and Dr. Sinno often reduce enlarged nipples and eliminates excess skin and stretch marks during breast reduction surgery. Other benefits of breast reduction surgery include enhanced self confidence, increased clothing options, and a general improvement in overall quality of life.

Leading Edge Breast Reduction Techniques

Most breast reduction patients require an incision pattern that encircles the areola, descends vertically in a straight line, then underscores the breast with a short inframammary (breast fold) incision. This is often referred to as an inverted “T” or anchor shaped pattern, also commonly used in breast lift surgery. This allows for removal of excess skin, fat, and breast tissue, as well as lifting and reshaping of the remaining tissue. Dr. Mustoe’s careful skin closure techniques are the result of many years of research into scar prevention and wound healing, and help produce a finer, flatter scar. In selected cases a vertical incision combined with the areolar incision can be performed (lollipop scar) eliminating the inframmary fold scar. Dr. Mustoe and Dr. Sinno incoroporate liposuction into the operation to optimize shaping, minimize injury and selectively remove fatty tissue from the breast. Dr. Mustoe’s and Dr. Sinno’s techniques are directed towards optimizing a youthful shape which involves a variety of techniques tailored to the individual patient.

Dr. Mustoe and Dr. Sinno also offer advanced techniques for removing overdeveloped tissue in men struggling with gynecomastia. Learn more about male breast reduction.

Improved Recovery & Results

In their 20+ years of surgical experience, Dr. Mustoe and Dr. Sinno have developed many innovative and proven techniques that enhance the recovery and results of their breast reduction patients. Through their extensive research, they have learned how to minimize injury during procedures such as breast reduction, which means a shorter and more comfortable recovery with fewer complications.

Most breast reduction patients require a few days of rest immediately following their procedure, and typically take a week off work. More strenuous activities and occupations may be limited for up to 6 weeks. During the first several weeks of your recovery, a support bra will aid in your healing and comfort as swelling and bruising subside. Although it may take up to a year for incisions to fade, you will likely feel better about your new body shape almost immediately.
